1. What Ray’s Pet is

Ray’s Pet is a free local board that helps pets in the Washington, DC area find homes. It shows two kinds of listings:

• Neighbor listings: pets posted by individual owners who need to rehome them.
• Rescue listings: pets from shelters and rescues, shared with us by those organizations or through services such as RescueGroups.org.

Ray’s Pet is a meeting place, not a shelter, rescue, breeder or seller. We do not own, inspect, house or transport any animal, and we are not a party to any adoption. Adoptions happen between you and the owner or rescue.

2. Who can use Ray’s Pet

You must be at least 18 to create an account, post a listing or apply for a pet. You agree to give accurate information and to keep your password private. You are responsible for what happens under your account.

3. Adopting a pet

• Rescue pets: the Adopt button sends you to the rescue’s own application. Ray’s Pet does not collect or review those applications; the rescue’s own terms and process apply.
• Neighbor pets: you can send the owner an inquiry through Ray’s Pet. Your inquiry, including your name, email and phone number, goes to that owner so they can contact you.
• Ray’s Pet does not guarantee any pet’s health, temperament, age, breed, history or availability. Meet the pet, ask questions, and get a vet check before you commit.

4. Listing a pet (rehoming)

If you post a pet, you promise that:

• You own the pet or have the legal right to rehome it.
• Your listing, photos and description are accurate and honest, including known health and behavior issues.
• The animal is a legal companion animal in DC, Maryland or Virginia (no wildlife, exotic or restricted animals).
• You will mark the pet adopted or remove the listing once it has a home.

Any adoption fee you ask must be a reasonable rehoming fee meant to protect the pet, not to make a profit. These are not allowed:

• Selling animals for profit, breeding operations, or listing litters for sale
• Asking for deposits, shipping fees or payment before the adopter has met the pet in person
• Listing a pet you don’t have, or using someone else’s photos
• Trading animals for goods, or giving pets away as prizes

We may remove any listing at any time, for any reason, including reports from other users.

5. Your content

You keep ownership of the photos and text you post. You give Ray’s Pet a non-exclusive, royalty-free license to host, display, resize and share that content (for example, in search results or social posts promoting the pet) while it is on the site and for a reasonable time after. You confirm you have the right to grant this.

6. Rules for everyone

You agree not to:

• Scam, harass, threaten or deceive other users
• Use information from Ray’s Pet (such as an adopter’s contact details) for anything other than the adoption it was shared for
• Post anything illegal, hateful, sexual, or that infringes someone else’s rights
• Scrape, copy or resell listings or user data, or use bots to access the site
• Try to break, overload or get around the site’s security

7. Reporting problems

If a listing seems wrong, unsafe or like a scam, use the “Report this listing” button or email rayspet23@gmail.com. If an animal is in danger or you suspect a crime, contact local animal control or the police first.

8. Safety

Meet in a public place or with someone you trust, never send money before meeting the pet, and trust your instincts. Our rehoming guide has more tips. Ray’s Pet does not screen users and cannot guarantee anyone’s identity or intentions.

9. Rescue content and other sites

Rescue listings and links to rescue websites come from third parties. We try to keep them current, but we are not responsible for their accuracy or for those sites and their terms.

10. Ending your use

You can stop using Ray’s Pet at any time and ask us to close your account by emailing rayspet23@gmail.com. We may suspend or close accounts that break these terms.

11. Disclaimers

Ray’s Pet is provided “as is” and “as available.” To the fullest extent the law allows, we make no promises that the site will be error-free or always available, or that any listing, user or animal is as described.

12. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, Ray’s Pet and its owners are not liable for any indirect, incidental or consequential damages, or for any loss arising from an adoption, a meeting between users, or an animal’s health or behavior. Our total liability for any claim is limited to $100. Ray’s Pet is free, and these limits are part of what makes that possible.

13. Indemnity

If your listing, conduct or breach of these terms leads to a claim against Ray’s Pet, you agree to cover the reasonable costs of that claim.

14. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the District of Columbia. Any dispute will be handled in the courts located in Washington, DC.

15. Changes

We may update these terms. When we make a significant change, we’ll update the date above and, where possible, tell account holders by email. Continuing to use Ray’s Pet after a change means you accept the new terms.
